October is National Safe Work Month—a time to commit to building a safe and healthy workplace.

During October each year, we use October to engage with our workers, contractors, on-hire staff and volunteers to commit to a safe and healthy workplace.

Being healthy and safe means being free from physical and psychological harm. No job should be unsafe and no death or injury is acceptable. A safe and healthy workplace benefits everyone.

The theme for National Safe Work Month 2021 this year is think safe. work safe. be safe.

This October think safe. work safe. be safe. at your workplace by planning and implementing work health and safety procedures.

Some ideas might include:

  • Healthy eating and exercise program. How about a fresh fruit bowl!
  • Introduce mental health time outs, create a relaxing space to chill out for a time
  • Take the safety committee on a site tour, show them areas they don’t normally go and have a conversation about what happens there. It’s always interesting when fresh eyes ask why and how we do things, is there a better way, and ideas start flowing (and if you are brave enough take the Directors and CEO, COO, CFO, etc on a site walk)
  • Just do safety stuff you don’t normally spend anytime on, think differently and you might be surprised by the results
  • And appreciate the hard work everyone does! positive reinforcement goes a long way to building a great engaging and safe workplace

Anyway have some fun with safety for a month, everyone deserves it!
